Mrs. Nellie Huff Voelker2117 Mrs. Nellie Huff Voelker, 76, of 5902 Walnut, founder of Sigma Delta Phi, died yesterday at Baptist Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Voelker, with her husband, the late Arthur Voelker, founded Sigma Delta Phi, an educational and social sorority for business and professional women in 1961. Mrs. Voelker was national field director for Beta Sigma Phi, a sorority for businesswomen. She was associated with the American Business Women’s Association.
She was born in Mexico, Mo., and lived in Kansas City 50 years. She was a member Calvary Baptist Church.
She leaves a son, Robert H. Voelker of the home, and four grandchildren. Services will be at 2:30 Monday at the Stine & McClure Chapel; burial in Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the chapel. The family requests no flowers and suggests contribution to the Arthur and Nellie Voelker Educational Fund of the sorority.
ARTHUR M. VOELKER2116 Arthur M. Voelker, 77, of 5902 Walnut, died yesterday at Baptist Memorial hospital. He was bom in Chiliicothe, Mo., and lived here 47 years. Mr, Voelker worked 34 years for the wage and hour division of the U. S. Labor department until he retired in 1955. He was a member of the Calvary Baptist church. Mr. Voelker was a World War I veteran and member of the American Legion. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Nellie Voelker, and a son, Robert H. Voelker, both of the home, and four grandchildren. Friends may call tonight at the Muehiebach chapel. The family requests no flowers and suggest contributions to the hospital.
