The Gillans to celebrate their 45th anniversary on Thanksgiving Day2867A gathering of the Gillan family on, Thanksgiving Day will not only celebrate Thanksgiving but also the forty-fifth wedding anniversary of James and Madeline Gillian of Conewango. James Alexander Gillan and Madeline Brown, both of Buffalo, were married Nov. 28,1942 in the Community Church in Miami Beach, Fla. while Mr. Gillan was serving with the U.S. Air Force. The Gillians have lived here in Conewango for the past 15 years, coming there from Buffalo. They are parents of four children, Jessie Sole of Buffalo. Jeanie Amell of Conewango, James Gillan of San Diego, Calif, and Jill Smith of Randolph. They also have five grandchildren and are looking foward to their sixth expected in May. Mr. Gillan is now retired after a career in sales. The family gathering will be hosted by their daughter, Jill, and her husband, Casey Smith, who live on Martin Road. All of the family will be present except for the honored couple's son, Jim but they are looking forward to his return home in time for Christmas.
Madeline Gillan was the adopted daughter of Edward Brown, who married Madeline’s mother Jessie Thompson after Jessie had been abandoned by her first husband, whose actual name is not known.
28682/1/2004 - Madeline Gillan2869RANDOLPH - Madeline Gillan, 79, of 4835 Elm Creek Road, Randolph, died at 12:38 a.m. Saturday () in Hospice Buffalo, Inc. She was born March 17, 1924, in Buffalo, the daughter of Edward and Jessie Thomson Brown.
She was a graduate of Buffalo City Schools. She retired from the J.C. Penney Company in Jamestown, where she had been a sales clerk.
She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother and for her wonderful cooking.
Surviving are a son, James A. Gillan Jr. of Buffalo; three daughters: Jessie M. Sole of Tonawanda, Jeannie Stanislowski of West Seneca and Jill Smith of Randolph; 11 grandchildren: John Sole Jr., David Sole, Jane Rounds, Justin and Jared Amell, Byron, Collin and Iain Gillan, Jenna, Lauren and Amanda Smith; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James A. Gillan Sr., whom she married Nov. 28, 1942, in Florida and who died Sept. 10, 2001.
Private services will be held by the family in the East Randolph Cemetery.
