John Godfrey Harthcock, son of Thomas Harthcock and Catherine Zeigler, married Naomi Tolar 19 January 1836. Naomi Tolar was born 25 May 1819, died 25 August 1855 and was buried in Locust Cemetery with no marker. John Godfrey and Naomi lived about 2 miles north of Zeiglerville in Holmes County, Mississippi. The log house in which they lived was abandoned many years ago and in ruins in 1970. John Godfrey Harthcock is listed in 1850 census with wife Naomi, children: Thomas Godfrey age 13, Martha age 1 John age 8, Sarah J. age 6, and William E. age 2. In the 1880 census John Godfrey Harthcock is listed, age 68, wife Mary A. 60, children: James M. age 22, and Julia Ann age 17.

John Godfrey Harthcock and his wife, Naomi Tolar, are listed in 1840 census as between 20 and 30 years of age. Joshua Tolar is listed as age 20 to 30 in this same 1840 census. Joshua Tolar was probably her brother. John Godfrey later married Mary Ann Brunson 4 November 1855, who was born in Georgia, 19 April 1822, was the daughter of Mathew Brunson. John Godfrey Harthcock and Mary Ann Brunson are buried in Locust Grove Cemetery near Zeiglerville. Both graves have markers.
