Notes for Francis Shackelford
Roger's son, Francis Shackleford, was born in Gloucester, VA ca 1665. He married Sarah Lewis who was born in Brecon or Brecknock, Wales ca 1670. It appears Sarah came to VA with her brother, Zachary, who is noted in several records along with his sister, Sarah. Sarah and Francis married in Gloucester, VA ca 1699. They moved to Bath (later Carteret), NC ca 1710 and had the following children: John, James, Elizabeth, Roger, Mary and Sarah.496
Notes for Sarah Virginia (Spouse 1)
Place of birth also given as Gloucester Co VA497 and Essex Co VA.491

Parents also given as Ralph Lewis (b 1649 Wales, d 1712 PA) and Mary Morgan (b 1650, d 1704 PA).497 If the genealogy given by the latter researcher is correct, the ancestry of Sarah Virginia Lewis is taken back several more generations in Wales through the Lewis and Morgan lines. At this point, this genealogy is unsourced and not supported by casual Google search for a Welsh family of Ralph Lewis and Mary Morgan.498 In this reference, Ralph Lewis and Mary Morgan were both said to have been born in Glamorganshire, Wales, and to have travelled from Wales to PA in 1683. Their family is reported to have included nine children, including a Sarah Lewis. However, this Sarah Lewis was born 18 May 1691 and therefore could not have been the Sarah Virginia Lewis who married Francis Shackelford about 1699.

On the other hand, a convincing argument has been made that Zachery and Sarah Lewis were brother and sister and children of John Lewis and Sarah NIchols.499
