Notes for William (Spouse 1)
William MEREDITH born about 1742, Louisa County, Virginia, married, first about 1763, to Anne BOND. Anne died about 1792 in Stokes County, North Carolina and is buried there. William married second on 17 Aug 1792 (date of marriage bond), in Surry County, North Carolina, to Rebecca KEYS. Rebecca was born. 21 January 1752, in York County, Pennsylvania, (daughter of Joseph KEYS and Rebecca MULLEN) and died after Apr 1825. William died between 1824-1825, in Adair County, Kentucky.

William Meredith was referred to as "Captain" and served in the North Carolina Militia under Col. Martin Armstrong. Another officer and close friend was Captain Benjamin Cleveland. Both were in the Battle of King's Mountain in 1780. The Surry County, North Carolina records are full of references to William Meredith from 1771 until November 1805. He was a landowner and also served in various political offices, including justice of the peace, constable and coroner. According to a letter to Lyman Draper dated January 1, 1881, he was also a schoolteacher.

A letter from John Banner to Lyman C. Draper written December 1, 1880 from Mt. Airy, North Carolina, states that William Meredith had his place of residence on land on Crooked Creek in northeast corner of Stokes County, North Carolina and that when his wife Anne died she was buried on the place near an oak tree.

By 1806 William has moved from North Carolina and appears on the Pulaski County, Kentucky Tax Rolls.
